Informational campaign “Explore Latvia”

Since 2017, with co-financing from European Union funds attracted by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, 73 cultural and natural heritage sites have been built and renovated in Latvian regions – manors, castles, churches, towers, parks, museums, open-air stages, nature trails, gardens, bridges, promenades, beaches, and other places. This year, the Ministry of Culture continues the informational campaign “Explore Latvia” (Atrastā Latvija), launched in 2021, inviting both local and Baltic tourists to explore Latvia in all its splendor and discover lesser-known places.

As part of the campaign, everyone has access to the website atrastalatvija.lv, where you can find out more about the renovated and newly built cultural and natural heritage sites, the investments made in them, and practical information about visiting the sites. News about cultural and natural heritage routes and the objects included in them can also be viewed on the campaign’s Instagram account @AtrastaLatvija.

All “Explore Latvia” sites are arranged into 8 cultural and natural heritage routes – tourist itineraries that help travelers see Latvia today through its past: the Baltic Route, the Freedom Route, the Light Route, the Daugava Route, the Jacob’s Route, the Livonian Route, and the Māra’s Route.

The 8 cultural heritage routes lead through all of Latvia, revealing both well-known and possibly yet unseen places to campaign participants. On each of these routes, several attractions are also accessible to people with mobility impairments. The level and specifics of accessibility can be viewed individually for each object (description can be found in each object’s “Object Description” section).

The constructions and renovations of Latvia’s cultural and natural heritage sites have been ongoing since 2017, when the Ministry of Culture, with co-funding from the European Union, first pitched the idea of the project.
